Our client is a High Voltage Electrical Substation Contractor that is looking to hire an Electrical Substation Estimator.

This position is responsible for collecting and analyzing data in order to estimate the labor, equipment, materials, subcontract, and ancillary cost required for assigned substation utility electrical projects. The primary goal of the position is to track, bid, and secure profitable work for the company while maintaining an acceptable ratio of awarded projects.


  • Identify and quantify cost factors such as production time, materials, and labor expenses

  • Travel to job sites to gather information on materials needed, labor required, and other factors

  • Read blueprints and technical documents in order to prepare estimates

  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, clients, and sub-contractors to develop constructibility plans and estimates

  • Use computer software to calculate estimates

  • Evaluate a product’s cost-effectiveness or profitability

  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements

  • Prepare takeoffs and work with project team to solicit and secure competitive sub-contractor proposals and pricing

  • Review budgets versus actual performance with project teams and take corrective action as necessary


  • Proven success working as a Lead Estimator for a High Voltage Electrical Substation Contractor (direct hire, self-perform).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze electric construction drawings and specifications.
  • Must show document success of winning estimates
  • Previous utility construction experience - field experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid Software (or similar)
  • Ability to estimate Substation Construction Projects, Transmission Line Construction, and Civil Construction associated with Transmission & Distribution projects.
